how to get organized!

After the Shabbat Shelly congregational dinner on May 16 at Temple Israel, Albert Barry will speak about his research of Eastern Europe’s wooden synagogues. Of 1000 wooden synagogues existing during the mid-20th century, only 10 remain. Mr. Barry followed his lifelong compulsion to discover what happened to Europe’s synagogues during the Holocaust. His documentary, “The Lost Wooden Synagogues of Eastern Europe,” will be shown following his remarks.

Lag B’Omer—Enjoy the Outdoors!
Friday, May 23 at 6 pm

In true Lag B’Omer fashion, Shabbat services on Friday, May 23 will escape the confines of 133 Merriman and instead head to Sand Run Park. Celebrate the holiday which prizes picnics and communes with the outdoors.

Meet at the Wadsworth Shelter for a 6:00 p.m. Shabbat Service. Stay for the barbecue dinner, cooked by the Executive Board. Then, games are planned.

Since we’ll be outside, bring your pets. Yes, PETS! Rabbi Lipper will perform a Pet Blessing on the four-leggers.

Shushan Idol and All That Jazz

The Sanctuary rocked to the surprise appearance of singing sensations at the Purim celebration on March 21. Rabbi Lipper, who donned a kingly ensemble, joined fellow staffers, Carrie Shkolnik, Michael Hood and Rory Sanders, with vocal additions by Michael Neumann and Bobby Adler, to entertain with Purim parodies during the hilarious retelling of the Shushan exploits of Mordechai, Esther and friends. Eileen Schonfeld critiqued the performers and roused the crowd to applaud and yell for their favorites. She was “too” kind, in many instances! The large group then continued the festivities at the Shabbat Shelly dinner, enjoying tabouli, hummus and other Mideastern favorites, prepared by Michael and Laura Hood.

A large crowd attended the Fireside Chat on March 16 to hear Rabbi David A. Lipper and Rev. Dr. Jay Groat discuss “Jesus: Human or Divine.”

"Yes, this Rabbi was funny!"

There must be some joke in the fact that we dodged the heaviest snow in recent years to welcome Rabbi Bob Alper and his stand-up comedy routine. The warmth and laughter filled the Temple Israel Social Hall, and for a time, we forgot the aches and pains brought on by the constant shoveling of snow. Thanks to Jeannine Marks who headed this endeavor and made it such a wonderful moment.

We also thank our Patrons for the evening: David and Dora Lipper, Michael and Elaine Neumann, Art and Shelly Krakauer, Bob Godshall and Melodie Phillips, Joyce and Mike Butlien, Ron and Kay Winer, Elaine and Scott Jaffe, Steve and Jeannine Marks, Steve and Sue Sigalow, Laura Lee Garfinkel, Marti Adams, Terry and Julie Zimmerman, Mark Gersman, David and Bobby Adler, Mark and Teresa Weinberger.

We celebrated Chanukah with a PowerPoint presentation depicting the holiday through the ages, set to music.
Then...we ate! Brisket, latkes and more.
Thanks to Elyssa Hilton and the Sisterhood!
