Rabbi David M. Horowitz (Tulane University B.A., Hebrew Union College, M.A., D.D.) has provided insightful commentary, analysis and wisdom on topics of concern to diverse groups in this country and abroad.

Ordained in 1969, he has been the spiritual leader of
congregations in Indianapolis and Hammond, Indiana,
Queensland, Australia, and Akron, Ohio where he is currently
Rabbi Emeritus of Temple Israel.


Permanent Tribute Fund established to honor Rabbi Horowitz:   The Rabbi David M. Horowitz Campership Fund provides a means to defray the camp costs for all children of member families of Temple Israel who attend any camp under the auspices of Union of American Hebrew Congregations. ( click for list of UAHC camps ) It is the congregation's hope that this fund will be able to defray up to one-third of the cost without regard to need. If such funds are not available, then the income of the fund will be divided equally among the campers each year  (funds custodian: current Rabbi).  Please consider contributions to this fund to help continue its worthwhile work.

David M. Horowitz has dedicated his career to advancing progressive political, social and spiritual values through his work as a religious leader, political consultant, ethics advisor and guest lecturer. His portfolio of advocacy work concentrates on four core areas:

* Guest lecturer in the fields of ethnic studies, gay studies, the Holocaust, sociology. Educator on gender issues for the Akron Police Department, Akron Public Schools, University of Akron and Kent State University

Rabbi Horowitz was the topic of a chapter entitled "Every Day the Rabbi Helps Gays," in Dan Woog's Friends and Family/True Stories of Gay America's Straight Allies and authored the chapter, "David" in A Family and Friends guide to Sexual Orientation, edited by Bob Powers and Alan Ellis.
